Case studieswith the research left in.
Real work, start to finish. Each study walks through the problem, the decisions, and what changed because of them.
Side builds
Not case studies.Just things I make.
On my own time I design small native tools for macOS, and build the occasional piece of hardware. No client, no brief, no deadline. I've always been fascinated by interfaces, and this is where that goes.
- Hardware · Embedded LinuxMini Mac ClassicA miniature Macintosh that actually works. It powers on, boots, and runs the same software the original did.
- macOS · SwiftUIRelabelA batch file renamer for macOS that stacks rules top to bottom and shows a before-and-after list of every filename before you commit.
- macOS · SwiftUIIn progressMacFTPA dual-pane FTP and SFTP client for macOS that puts local and remote folders side by side and queues transfers between them.
- macOS · SwiftUIIn progressHue SyncA macOS app for Philips Hue that can mirror whatever is on screen to the lights in the room in real time.
About
From roomsto interfaces.
Every interior project started the same way: map how someone moves through a space. Where they come in, what they see first, what tells them where to go next. I spent almost four years doing that for hotels, guest rooms, lobbies, bars, and sales centers in Orlando. I was drawing user journeys and sitemaps without knowing either name.
Two things landed at once. I'd been running prerelease builds in the Windows 10 Insider Program, filing feedback on what didn't work. Nobody had told me that was usability testing. Then a web design course put the other half in place. I built a site, watched friends use it, and kept changing it based on what they actually did rather than what I'd intended. That was the moment I decided to switch.
A master's in UX research and design at the University of Michigan's School of Information followed, then fourteen months at Plex designing a notification system across desktop, web, TV, and mobile. Since 2022 I've been a UX designer and researcher for the State of Michigan, running interviews and usability audits and rebuilding statewide tools, the kind people have to use rather than choose to.
